Helsinki Photomedia 2012

.

Inspired by the Helsinki Design Capital year, the Aalto University department of Media is starting a new conference on photography. More that 140 participants have registered for the event that starts tomorrow.

The conference covers a rather amazing variety of photographic topics. The mobile phone, in particular in a social context is very well represented, however the dimension of art and mobile phones does not get a lot of attention.

I spotted a few art-related talks that looked very interesting, you can check them out via the links below.

The conference opens tomorrow, Wednesday March 28. The venue is the Aalto School of Arts, Design and Architecture at Hämeentie 135 in Helsinki. You can check out the full program by clicking here. Note that the keynote speeches are open to the public!

Illuminated Touch 2010

Illuminated Touch 2010If you are in New York this Sunday (October 24), lucky you! Make sure you don’t miss this: Illuminated Touch 2010 exhibition.

The Illuminated Touch 2010 is an art exhibition associated with Mobile Art Con 2010 conference, the first conference dedicated to art and mobiles.

Quote from the exhibition web page:

More than 150 fine artists, illustrators, photographers and musicians from all over the world are inviting the NYC public to explore the creative possibilities of mobile digital technology. The show features more than 200 works exclusively created on iPhones, iPads, Androids and other mobile wireless devices.

You find the exhibition at the Openhouse Gallery, 201 Mulberry Street, NY, NY., 7pm – 10pm.  Sounds like a great event to me! Good luck to the organizers.

We are not alone: MobileArtCon 2010 in New York by iamda.org

MobileArtCon 2010 Seems The 3 Inch Canvas is not the only org that has payed attention to the emergence of art on mobiles! Great to see interest being born in other parts of the world as well!

What better proof do you need for something be “real” than a conference dedicated to the topic? Well, now mobile art has gotten it’s first conference, MobileArtCon 2010 in NYC, October 22nd-Oct 25th.

You can find all the info about the conference on the The International Association of Mobile Digital Artists (iAMDA) website. Note that the conference is still open to papers and talks so if you are quick, you can still participate even as a speaker.
